SAN JOSE, Calif. (May 15, 2014) - LocalizationGuy president Aki Ito made a presentation on strategies for successful in-country review for translation and localization projects for the International Multilingual User Group (IMUG), hosted by Adobe Systems in San Jose.
IMUG asked Ito to discuss in-country review because it is considered to be one of the most difficult steps in a localization project. In-country review refers to the use of subject matter experts who are native speakers of the language into which the source content is translated. When source content is complex or technical, and a high level of accuracy is required, in-country review is an important step to ensure the material is comprehended after translation.
"This step is where misunderstanding, disputes, and even complete loss of communication can happen," said Ito. "Poorly handled in-country review can lead to delayed deadlines, compromised quality, higher costs, frustrated project team members and dissatisfied customers." Ito's session provided useful tips that managers can put to practical use immediately. Ito also detailed real-life examples from some of the Japanese projects he has managed.
